Pakistan complete win over Australia, finally!

There was only one Test match that was played last week and the result was a shocker. Pakistan, who had lost 13 successive Test matches to Australia before the second Test match of the series at Headingley, beat Australia in the game by three wickets to finally break the voodoo.

It was a game that was probably decided at the toss. Or at least, after the Aussies decided to bat first after winning the toss, a decision that would come to haunt them through the entire duration of the game. The pitch assisted the swing bowlers alright, but the manner of the Aussie capitulation will give them some sleepless nights before the tour of India and more importantly, the Ashes.

Mohammad Aamer, Mohammad Asif and Umar Gul bowled the Aussies out for 88, before they took a 170-run lead in the first innings, despite not a single batsman getting to a half century.

The Aussies batted much better in the second innings, but an early morning collapse on the third day of the game saw the side lose 3/20 to Aamer. In the end, that was the difference between the Aussies going up by 250 and setting the target of 180 to Pakistan for a win.

Pakistan batted well to get to 137 for the loss of only captain Salman Butt’s wicket, but then, as has been the case with Pakistani cricket for some time now, they collapsed. 137/1 became 137/3 and 161/6 before Kamran Akmal pulled them out with a gritty 13 – each run worth its weight in gold.

Pakistan lost one more wicket before achieving the target to end the series at 1-1.
