India Never ‘Clicked’, Says Dejected Dhoni
Captain of the Indian national side, Mahendra Singh (M.S) Dhoni, believes that his country simply isn’t good enough to make a speedy return to the number one spot on the Reliance ICC Team Rankings.
“The margin of defeat is only getting bigger and bigger”, Dhoni told the website of the England and Wales Cricket Board, the ECB.
India lost to England for the third time in a row on Saturday, with the host team needing only a single innings to squash their South Asian visitors. England claimed 710 runs, compared to India’s 468; the home side won by an innings and 242 runs. M.S Dhoni was the last player on the pitch for India, after a lacklustre second innings. Those following the online cricket betting will know how poor India were.
Despite the glum outlook for India, M.S Dhoni says that he is “really proud” of what he claims is the “best team in the world”. However, the 30-year-old notes that the current squad needs to be strengthened, whether through better training, or by bringing ‘new blood’ into the team. “Our bowling and batting department has not really clicked in this series [against England].”
It’s worth mentioning that India’s fielders have also been criticised for lacking the motivation to play cricket, chiefly, by Geoffrey Boycott and Michael Vaughan. However, the demoralising effect of Alistair Cook’s first innings, when he fell just six runs short of three centuries, will no doubt have been an instrument in India’s apathy on the green. The Betfair Michael Vaughan Tips now suggest a whitewash will happen.
M.S Dhoni intimated that India lack the ability to keep the “good deliveries” away from the stumps, something that England did “really, really well”. India were prevented from scoring runs by Tim Bresnan, who took five wickets over two innings, James Anderson, with six wickets in the same period, and Stuart Broad, also with six.
Dhoni was arguably, the best Indian player on the field at Edgbaston, by a huge margin. The captain scored 151 runs for his country, almost one third of the total 468 collected by the visiting team.
